You know that the world of medicine rarely uses English terminology to name their medical conditions. And in like manner, the term autism did not come from the most regular language on the planet. Rather it came from Greece, with autism stemming from the Greek auto, which means self. So you understand now that autism is all about the sufferer withdrawing almost a hundred per cent into him/her self.
Autism is not a form of psychosis, but a distinct developmental disorder all by itself. Back in the day when the condition was known but not diagnosed, it was thought to be some kind of phobia or hang-up, but that notion has since changed. It is a disorder all by itself, and not one that is easily cured. The good news however is that it can be somewhat managed.
Some folks are particularly good with autism patients, and in a natural way too. They are somehow able to reach out and communicate to the child with autism, and also understand what the child must be going through and trying to say most of the time. Such folks should be in homes where they can be of more help to society in raising these kids. If there is a way that they can teach them better, it would be so lovely.
There are more boys who are autistic than there are girls. For some reason, which several specialists have tried but failed to explain, this phenomenon strikes hard at children even before they are able to think independently. And then, if they are unable to cure them, the kids could remain that way all the way into adulthood. Even those who snap out of it eventually are not always able to get rid of all the symptoms completely.
